Down the Road, We See Bookworm
Me at the super swaggy book store!
Hey everyone!
I hope y'all are doing good and taking care of your health, I am the Event Coordinator for Sigma Kappa Delta (and the President but let’s not talk about it hehe) . On today's blog, I wanted talk about the small trip I took in Downtown of Odessa. I was doom scrolling on Facebook and I came across an Ad talking about a vintage bookstore called Bookworm. I told myself, "Hm I have been downtown a couple times, I have never seen a bookstore in that area." As I drove into Downtown, I can see why I never have seen the store, it was literally hidden and is in the cracks between two other stores that grab all the attention. I find some parking and walk my way towards the bookstore. I open the door and get hit by a wift of cat aroma, I scan the entrance and see one cat slowly prancing and another being lazy next to the window. I take in the amount of books I see right in front me of, I think to myself, "Finally a place I have been looking for." Who doesn't want to be in a store surrounded by books? I see the cat looking at me and starts to disappear in the book shelves, I follow her and knee down so I can pet her. She is such a friendly cat that loves to be petted and picked up, she starts fiddling with my keychain and I start playing with her. Then, I hear an elderly's voice asking If I needed any assistance. I smiled at her and tell her that I have never been in here before and I thought it was a pretty cool place. She smiled and tells me there are many sections of different kind of genres. I ask her where the Psychology sections is at, she directs me towards the back. She points me to the bookshelves and tells me if I have any questions to let her know. I was so excited to see what kind of books there was going to be, and right above it was the Poetry section- yup definitely in the right place. I was skimming through the books, some titles were, Deviance and Social Control, Feminine Psychology, The Power of Positive Thinking, and On Dying and Denying. Those are the only ones I can think from the top of my head, I was trying to see what kind of books I wanted to buy and see if they would be helpful with my profession. Although these books can be outdated with today's society, it's good to look into what kind of perspectives they had back in the day. I was really enjoying some of the text I was reading from each book that I was looking through. There was a quote that said, "Where I am, I don't know, I'll never know, in the silence you don't know, you must go, I can't go, I'll go on. I feel like what it is trying to say is we have to walk into the unknown even if we don't have the faith to keep moving forward. We might not know where we are or why we are here but we must go on! After 2 hours of looking through books and deciding what I wanted to buy, I go to the front and the elder lady checks out my books. She tells me that she hopes to see me soon and I told her mostly definitely and smiled. I would like to say that my little adventure to a new place was exciting and memorable. Thank for reading today's blog, I hope you all have a wonderful moment in your day.
Lots of love,
Val
This this one of the other cats that kept following me around the store.
