Daily Observations

I hope everyone is trying and taking care of your health.

Looking back on my research paper from this year, I have improved on citing my arguments and information that I discuss about. I was pretty vague in this one but at the time I thought it was plenty and I didn’t have to write more. Even if there was a word limit, I should’ve been more detailed. I feel like I block myself so much, the worst part, I am not aware of it. Other times… I am just lazy. On the positive side, I have gotten better at adding more context and bringing in sources that are interesting to read. When I was reading this small discussion, I totally forgot about some of the events and what kind of media that resonated with my thesis was about. I hope you enjoy my little short discussion and read the links I will put down below.

From the readings provided, there were two that I really enjoyed. The first was "An Introduction to the Science of Social Psychology," and the second was "Conducting Psychology Research in the Real World." These two readings relate to my experiences in understanding that a person's thoughts or attitude can affect the whole room's behavior. In the article, most psychologists study what attraction does in social groups. This relates to my daily life by seeing how pretty privilege can manipulate so many scenarios. For example, I have many beautiful friends, and sometimes I see how they use their charm to get what they want. We were at a bar once and my friend started to talk to these two guys, making jokes, asking questions, and batting her eyes... Then she came up to me and said that they were going to pay for us. There was even a time when people did small or big gestures because they were mesmerized by their beauty. As I am learning more about social psychology, this field can help me by looking into how obedience and authority can affect a group or a certain kind of team. Why social comparison makes us treat certain people that we come across. The media that relates to my reflection is a movie called Beastly. It is about a very handsome but arrogant, selfish, and cold-hearted man who treats a wrinkled old lady poorly because of her looks. Little does he know, she is a witch who soon curses him into being an ugly man. She tells him that he needs to find someone who will fall for him in his ugly state, and then the curse will be broken. This movie shows how he used his charm to get everything that he wanted and treat people poorly. Once he looked like the image of his heart, he soon realized that he was a cruel man. He had to listen to the witch's instructions to turn back into a human or he was going to stay like a beast forever.
